Google Goddess

I Like Her Again
I’ve had my run-ins with the Google Goddess before - and although I’ve heard the term “Google Gods” before, I’m quite certain it’s singular, and feminine. But then right when I’m really pissed off at her about something, like PageRank for example, she amazes me with her glitter and charm, and I’m back to worshiping her.
For several years now I’ve ignored the services commonly known as Google Apps, or Google Apps For Domains. That was, until today when I saw an interesting reference to it in an article I was reading.
I promptly visited the Google Apps pages and over the past hour or so I’ve been learning everything there is to know about these services. I wont go into the technical details here - since I’m likely the last person in world that hadn’t already tried them out.
But I can say that I’m heading back to the Church of Google, and I’ll be sacrificing virgins for the Google Goddess shortly.
Ticket Exchange

Mutual Solutions
It’s no secret that a large majority of us here in the U.S. will be avoiding long distance travel this summer. It just doesn’t make sense to spend that much money on gasoline, especially when you can most always find enjoyable entertainment close to home. Would you rather spend hard earned money on gas, or some great concert tickets? Which one do you think will provide the best memories when you look back on the summer of 2008 years down the road?
But, you’re not alone in this thought process. Many other people will also be looking for entertainment close to home. Whether their preference is concerts, sporting events, of theater, they are all competing with you for those tickets, and it’s bound to be more difficult to secure tickets for your desired event.
With this in mind, you’ll want to purchase tickets as early as possible. Now, with Free Ticket Exchange, you won’t even have to worry about getting stuck with those tickets if your plans change and you’re unable to attend the event. This has always been the greatest concern when buying tickets far in advance.
With Free Ticket Exchange, you can buy ticket from, or sell tickets to, other “community” members. And the best part – there are no fees to use this service!
Additionally, you can select who you want to buy tickets from, or even who you want to sell tickets to, ensuring that you are helping out like-minded people, who share your passion for the same artists, teams, or performances.

Still Not Enough Hours
If you’ve been reading Blog About Nothing for a while, you’ve already seen my posts mentioning that I have a growing portfolio of blogs and websites. Recently, I’ve purchased a few more.
There are a couple of brand new sites which I will make available to the public very soon. These specific sites focus more on niche topics, as opposed to the general topics you read about here.
That’s about all I’m going to divulge for the moment, but there will be more information available very soon - and I’ll post the applicable information here.

Something For Dad
Father’s Day is fast approaching. Did you order that new HDTV for Dad yet?
Or, if your budget is more like mine, maybe you’re looking for something a bit more affordable – yet unique enough to show that you’ve actually put some thought into it.
Any of the Surefire new flashlights – especially the police and military grade models – would be appreciated by any man, especially if he’s into camping or hiking. But, even if he isn’t, these are great flashlights with unmatched durability.
Don’t leave your dad in the dark!

Differently, That Is
The following press release was just posted by the Libertarian Party moments ago.
Libertarian Party selects Bob Barr as 2008 presidential nominee
Former Congressman plans to take the White House as Libertarian candidate
Denver - The Libertarian Party has nominated former Congressman Bob Barr as its candidate for president for the 2008 election.
“I’m sure we will emerge here with the strongest ticket in the history of the Libertarian Party,” Barr stated in his victory speech shortly after being selected as the Party’s nominee. “I want everybody to remember that we only have 163 days to win this election. We cannot waste one single day.”
More than 650 Libertarian delegates met in Denver from May 22 till the 26 for the 2008 Libertarian National Convention. After six rounds of voting Sunday afternoon, Barr was selected as the Party’s presidential nominee.
“We’re proud to present to the American voters Bob Barr as our presidential nominee,” says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis. “While Republicans and Democrats will fight for their own power in November, Libertarians will fight for Americans. Bob Barr is one of the strongest candidates in the Party’s 37-year history, and we look for him to have an enormous impact in the 2008 race. Republicans and Democrats have good reason to fear a candidate like Barr, who refuses to accept the ‘business-as-usual’ attitude of the current political establishment. Americans want and need another choice, and that choice is Bob Barr.”
The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties. You can find more information on the Libertarian Party by visiting www.LP.org. The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.
For more information, or to arrange a media interview, please call Andrew Davis at (202) 333-0008 during normal business hours, or at (202) 731-0002 during any other time. For an interview with the Barr campaign, please contact Audrey Mullen at (703) 548-1160.
Now is the time for a REAL change. Or, do you really just want more of the same two-party monopoly?
Web Hosting
May 25th, 2008Web Hosting
Simplified
Blog About Nothing changed web hosts last week. I’ve had to do this a few times now for one reason or another, and I must admit that I’m getting very good at moving WordPress and the associated databases from one host to another. But, I’ve been working on websites for close to fifteen years now, so I guess I’ve had plenty of opportunity to gather this knowledge.
There are many times throughout the years when some great web hosting tutorials would have been very helpful, and would have saved me countless hours of research.
In fact, a website such as webhostingrating.com could have saved me a substantial amount of money as well over that same time period. They have a lot of great articles and tutorials that cover everything from cheap web hosts to cPanel and dedicated servers.
Having all of that information compiled in one location is definitely a valuable resource.
The 80s
May 25th, 2008The 80s
Back To The Future
An interesting question was posed to me last week - if you could go back to any decade, which one would it be?
This might cause some people to ponder the choices a bit before answering. Not me though. I think the person asking the question was caught off-guard when I answered in .1 milliseconds. The answer was simple…
The Eighties.
I was in high school in the 80s. And while college was good, there just has never been any time in my life - so far - to compare with the great times back in high school.
Words can’t even begin to describe how wonderful it would be to once again be crusing around in my 1980 Mustang, filled with that 95 cent per gallon gasonline, listening to an awesome “mix tape”, personally mastered by myself after many hours of planning the compilation.
OK… I’ll admit that maybe I could do without the hairstyle again. We can leave that part of the Eighties in it’s grave. But everything else, from Alf and Top Gun, to Reagan and rainbows - bring it on.
If you are too young to have enjoyed the 80s as a teenager, my sympathies go out to you. There will probably never be another decade like that one.

Boat Sober
With the arrival of Memorial Day weekend, summer activities are finally upon us. One of the most enjoyable summer activities is boating. It’s also one of the most dangerous.

Far too often, alcohol is consumed during boating activities. While moderate alcohol can be perfectly safe and enjoyable for many passengers, it is not the case for the operator of the boat. Boating Operating Under the Influence is directly responsbile for 1/3 of all fatal boating accidents nationwide. Arizona Boating reports indicate that 50 percent of all fatal boating accidents in that state ere alcohol related in 2007.
This isn’t “fun”. This is “stupid”.
Boating Education classes are not required for operating a boat. Apparently, common sense isn’t required either. While I am a strong proponent of education - especially when lives are involved, knowing not to drink alcohol while operating a boat should go without saying.
Should…
But, doesn’t If it did, I wouldn’t be writing this post.
This summer, boat safe, boat smart, boat sober.
Hillary Is Losing It
May 24th, 2008Hillary Is Losing It
I’m Not Talking About The Election
It finally happened… Hillary is losing it.
No, OK, I know – she lost it long ago. But, now it’s coming to the surface.
When asked today by South Dakota newspaper the Argus Leader why she didn’t buy the argument that the party was fracturing because of the prolonged contest, she said “my husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June.”
“We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California,” she continued. “You know I just dont understand it.”
Wait… What?
Is this really anything new though?
A couple of weeks ago Clinton has made a similar “long primaries are fine” comment, which also made a reference to the Kennedy assassination. “If you look at successful presidential campaigns, my husband didn’t get the nomination until June of 1992. I remember, tragically, Senator Kennedy won California near the end of that process. It has often gone on. And we have a lot to work out here. Because we have to figure out who would be the stronger candidate.”
Um… Okaaaaaaaayyyyy…
Western Art
May 23rd, 2008Western Art
American Heritage
Have you ever been to the city of Orange, Texas? This might just be one of the best kept secrets in Texas.
While in Houston not too long ago on business, I was able to explore the area a bit. What began as a trip to Port Arthur, ended up as a very pleasant surprise in quaint and friendly Orange.
The entire state of Texas is exceptionally robust in nature and the general feel of the American West, especially when you travel outside of the major cities like Dallas, Houston, and Austin, and move on to the smaller cities like Orange.
One of the most intriguing things about the American West – other than great food – is the art. And one of the nation’s most significant collections of American Western art can be found right in the city of Orange, at the Stark Museum of Art.
At The Stark Museum of Art of Art, you will find yourself taken back in time as you enjoy one of the finest collections of 19th and 20th century Western American art and artifacts in North America. While browsing this fabulous museum, you’ll also find a significant collection of American Indian art, and collections of glass and porcelain, and rare books and manuscripts.
The Stark Museum is the perfect destination for anyone with an interest in the American West.
Currently, there are four major collections available for viewing at the museum:
Western Art
The Western Art collection contains the work of many artists, and conveys the artistic interpretation of the western region of the period of two centuries.
American Indian Art
The American Indians had more influence on western art than any other group of people. This collection consists of objects created by members of the tribes of the Great Plains, Southwest, Eastern Woodlands, and Northwest Coast. You’ll see great examples of Plains clothing, body ornaments, and beadwork.
Decorative Arts
The Decorative Arts collection houses all of the incredible glass and porcelain pieces, and includes the only complete set of the United States in Crystal.
Rare Books and Manuscripts
The Rare Books and Manuscripts collection is an absolute “must-see” for any fan of early American literature.
If you find yourself near Orange, Texas this year, consider the Stark Museum of Art to be a “don’t-miss” destination.
