Be Careful What You Ask For
As any reader of this blog should already know, I am continuing to follow the Angela Garbarino case as closely as possible, and I will support Angie in any way possible.
Yesterday, Katie brought to my attention an online petition demanding the prosecution of Officer Willis for crimes committed against Ms Garbarino. I assured her that I would check it out, and plug it here with a link.
I just visited the link to the petition, but refuse to add my name to it, despite the fact that I personally feel that Mr Willis should be strung up by his balls. There’s no doubt that the person originating this petition has the best intentions, and her goals are admirable. But, there is something very disturbing about it - in particular, this line:
“We feel that if Officer Willis is innocent of Police Brutality then he needs to prove it in a court of law.”
Mr Willis does not need to prove his innocence. This isn’t Iran or China. This is the United States. In the eyes of the law, Mr Willis is, and should be considered, innocent. It is up to the prosecution to prove his guilt, not the other way around.
Clearly, this shouldn’t be very difficult to prove.
Nonetheless, I can not conscientiously add my name to a request to deny an American their Constitutional rights regarding due process, no matter how obvious the outcome may be.
I do call upon the state of Louisiana to bring Mr Willis to trial, aggressively prosecute him, find him guilt, and then castrate him. But the burden of proof lies in their hands, not his.

It’s Almost His Day
OK, mom had her day a few weeks ago… All of the awesome moms and grandmothers should still be glowing from the special day they were presented with. If not, you screwed up. I was very careful to make sure my children’s mom was treated like a princess on her day. Oh, don’t get me wrong, she is a very special person and the honor was well-deserved. But, let’s be realistic – Father’s Day will be somewhat equal to Mother’s Day.
Or, as I like to call it… Father’s Day in HD.
All dads need an HDTV. All dads that already have an HDTV need a second one.
If you happen to live within a Charter Communication service area, then this could be your lucky day - or, maybe your dad’s lucky day.
Charter Communication is giving away an absolutely incredible Father’s Day package this year. The Grand Prize includes a new, huge, HDTV with free Charter HD service and The Charter Bundle for life!
The runner-up prizes are quite nice as well, and include Charter’s Biggest Bundle – free for a year, or free Charter HD service for a year!
Entering is very easy – just visit the Charter Communication website and submit a brief essay answering the question: “Why does your dad deserve the nation’s biggest HDTV?”
This one should be easy to answer!
Bloggaddiction

Or, Bloggaholic?
Blogging can be amazingly addictive. I’m not sure that’s really a bad thing. Rather, I’m merely making an observation. I just wish there were more hours in the day so that I could write as much as I’d like to.
At this point, I can think of a new domain name, buy it, configure the DNS with my web host, add a new MySQL database, install WordPress and customize the theme all in less than an hour. In fact, everything prior to customizing the theme can be done in about 10 minutes.
This is the part that makes it so addictive.
Every new thought, new idea, or new interest can become an entirely separate blog in virtually no time at all. I’ve got about ten different blogs at the moment, with a couple that haven’t been updated recently - but the rest are all updated regularly. This weekend, I will be adding two new ones.
I guess there could be worse things to be addicted too…

Boston’s Best
I’ve never run out of things to do in Boston. This beautiful and historic city has long been a favorite destination for my wife and I. Boston is the perfect romantic getaway, whether for a single night, or a week. We have countless special memories of times and events in Boston.
Our first date in Boston, before we were married, began with an evening stroll through the Boston Common – where we were attacked by a rabid squirrel that jumped out of a trash can. No, seriously. Well, it might not have been rabid, but it wasn’t normal. Even by squirrel standards.
The crazy squirrel didn’t interfere with our dinner plans however, nor the most awesome lobster ravioli I’ve ever had.
If you’re planning on a trip to any major city, you should check the Trusted Tours & Attractions website for the inside scoop on the best deals on discount tickets for sightseeing tours, attractions, and museums.
Looking for things to do in Atlanta? Las Vegas? Maybe Orlando or even Niagara Falls?

One For The People

Justice
The Texas 3rd District Court of Appeals today decided in favor of 38 women who had appealed the removal of more than 460 children from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) sect.
The three-judge panel said “The existence of the FLDS belief system as described by the department’s witnesses, by itself, does not put children of FLDS parents in physical danger” and that the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services “did not present any evidence of danger to the physical health or safety of any male children or any female children who had not reached puberty.”
The court concluded, “Evidence that children raised in this particular environment may someday have their physical health and safety threatened is not evidence that the danger is imminent enough to warrant invoking the extreme measure of immediate removal prior to full litigation of the issue.”
Now, I’m certainly no fan of the FLDS (except for the whole multiple-wives thing), or any organized religion in general for that matter – but I am even less of a fan of out-of-control government agencies. Clearly, the Texas DFPS had overstepped their boundaries and jurisdiction in this case, not at all unlike similar Protective Services departments do in other states.
Far more dangerous than any religion in the United States, even polygamist ones, is a government that is ready and willing to ignore the rights of its citizens.
This is yet another reason for less government.
Will You Be A Victim?
May 21st, 2008Will You Be A Victim?
It’s Up To You.
Will you be the victim of identity theft? Or, is this one of those things that only happens to other people? Are you safe because you’re really, really, careful with your personal information?
Don’t assume that any of your answers to the above questions are correct.
There actually is a very good chance that you will be the victim of identity theft at some point during your life. And, while “being careful” is always smart, it is not enough to protect you. It only takes one mistake of letting your guard down momentarily to reveal enough information to criminals that will take years to recover from, both emotionally and financially.
Only life lock can ensure total protection against identity theft. In fact, they’re so confident in this protection that they back it up with a $1,000,000 guarantee.
Now, that’s protection.
Change

Yeah, Right.
The geniuses in Washington D.C. continue to amaze me with their incompetance.
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives (Democrat controlled by the way) passed a bill allowing the U.S. to sue OPEC for high oil prices.
In part:
The House overwhelmingly approved legislation Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.
The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.
Yeah, this is going to work out real well…
First, such an action is not enforceable. Does anyone really think the Saudis give a rat’s ass what American courts “order” them to do? They have the oil, they win.
Second, take a guess at how quickly such an action will push OPEC to sell yet more oil to China, and less to the U.S.
All this in order to try to tell voters they did “something” about gas prices. It’s a very sad situation that our representatives have drafted this legislation that has no basis in international law and is so belligerent that even Bush has threatened a veto if it passes due to the obvious consequences.
The members of Congress who drafted this and those who voted in favor should have their balls nailed to the wall - because this is a clear showing of incompetence and lack of understanding of the even basics of Law and Governance.
Postcards And Beyond

The Simple Solution
Well, here’s something amazing… Rumor has it that some people still drive to the office supply store or local high-priced printers for custom printing needs such as business cards, postcards, and printed marketing materials.
Apparently, these same people are not concerned with the record-high price of fuel that they waste during those multiple trips to the printers. First, they need to drop their orders off. Then, assuming all goes well, they need to return at a later date to pick up their completed materials.
I guess these people have unlimited time to waste as well.
On the other hand, the smart people who would rather spend more time focusing on their work, and less money on fuel and even less on their orders, go straight to VistaPrint.
Whether their needs are postcard printing, business cards, rubber stamps, labels, or even stationary, VistaPrint provides the most economical and easiest solution. All of this without even leaving your office!
Or, maybe you enjoy sitting in traffic.
VistaPrint has been around for many years and continue to offer unparalled customer satisfaction. Unlike your local printing service company, VistaPrint doesn’t raise their prices every time oil hits a new record.
If you’re serious about your printing needs, and demand perfection in the final product, you can’t go wrong with VistaPrint.
Pigs

They’re Not Just For Dinner Anymore
I think I’ve found a good replacement for my jackass dog – you know, if she ever really pissed me off enough.
I want a miniature pig.

These little guys are really cool. They are about a fifth of the size of ordinary pigs and can live either inside or outside the house.
Apparently, they are smarter than most dogs. No doubt they are smarter than mine. They are reportedly very easy to house train and most always have a good temperament. This is definitely a good possibility.
And, you know it has to be said, there’s also the bacon factor.
Honda

Also Spelled Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y
There is no disputing Honda quality. Having long ago secured their position amongst the leading manufacturers of the world, they continue to engineer the highest quality products, including everything from automobiles and motorcycles, to lawn mowers and outboard motors. Honda knows everything there is to know about quality.

It wasn’t necessarily an easy path to success. Even after achieving best in class recognition, the engineers at Honda continue to strive for improvement across the board. When they believe they have achieved perfection, they try to improve upon it.
Easy? No. But Honda knows that difficult is worth doing.
This dedication even carries over to their ads, which are also directed to perfection. Smartly, they know that the quality and integrity of awesome vehicles, such as the Honda Accord, can best be represented in an ad of similar quality.
When you want to enjoy some quality video, try to set your eyes upon a Honda advertisement. When you’re ready for a quality ride, get behind the wheel of a new Honda Accord.
You won’t regret either decision.
