Zebras And Kids

Two Of My Favorite Things
Every once in a while I run across something that is just so extraordinary that I feel compelled to share it with everyone. Today is one of those days…

The short version of the story is that a baby zebra was found beside I-75 here in metro Atlanta on Tuesday. He was eating grass and wandering around, clearly injured. Police and animal control officers captured the injured zebra, and brought it to a rehabilitation center called Noah’s Ark. Your really should read all of the details in the news story.
The article mentioned that the veterinary care for the zebra will be in excess of $5,000. Noah’s Ark doesn’t have the funds, but gave the OK to proceed with the emergency care for the zebra - they would worry about where the money comes from later.
I immediately went to their website to make a donation to help out with the zebra, and quickly found myself immersed in the details of their facility. Not only do they rescue animals in need, the also “rescue” children in need.
What a cool facility… What a cool idea…
This is from their “About Us” page:
Noah’s Ark is a rehabilitation center for animals and a group home for children from birth to 18 years old. The non-profit facility is home to over 1,000 animals and is licensed by the State of Georgia to provide residential care for up to 24 children.
The wildlife from the rehabilitation center and the children from the Childrens Care Home play a vital role for each other. The children participate in “pet therapy,” nurturing the baby wildlife as the animals are rehabilitated in hopes of eventually being returned to their natural habitat. This is important because many of the children have been abused or abandoned and may have a hard time relating to people. They’re able to learn to care for the animals that, in turn, are receiving much needed affection and attention.
You really should visit their website.
Read about the services they provide to society.
Then ask yourself - “Am I doing something as substantial as this?”
If your answer is “no”, as mine was, please consider making a donation to them. You can easily do it online with either a credit card or PayPal. And, chances are, you’ll feel better after doing it.
Why are you still here? GO!

Extended Maintenance

Let’s Call It Ongoing
OK, so I lied a little bit in that earlier post about the maintenance…
The maintenance will be continuing for a while. I’m trying not to disrupt the flow here too much, and definitely trying to avoid the destruction of the database as I’ve done previously. Mostly it’s SEO work, code cleanup, and some streamlining of the categories and links.
