The More Things Change…

Not Again

Atlanta Falcons linebacker Michael Boley was arrested and charged with battery over the weekend after his wife told police he “became physical” with her.

It doesn’t seem too major of an incident, but the last thing this team needs is more distractions, especially more distractions of the legal kind.

Game 7, Bitches

Who’s Your Underdog Now?

Philips Arena was rockin’ last night when the Atlanta Hawks wrapped up a perfect home stand with a 103-100 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the playoffs.

According to the “experts, this was supposed to be over in 4 games - with Boston being victorious. Now, we’re heading back to Boston on Sunday for the decisive game 7.

Are the Hawks going to win? Unlikely - but one thing the Atlanta Hawks have proven is that they have heart. I have a lot of respect for this team, and they are representing Atlanta perfectly. This experience will give them something positive to build upon next year.

Enjoy the game boys. Win or lose in game 7, you’ve got a loyal fan here.

Hawks Tie It Up

Can’t be done? Don’t tell Atlanta it can’t be done!

The Atlanta Hawks are even with the Celtics 2-2 in the best of 7 NBA Playoff series. Number 8 Atlanta giving it to Number 1 Boston.

Lovin’ every minute of it…

Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan, welcome to Atlanta!

You’re a breath of fresh air after that last “franchise quarterback” we had. Hope he was able to watch the NFL draft from his cell.

Atlanta needs you Mr. Ryan. Welcome aboard!

Crazy Talk

Or, Maybe Not

I’ve been keeping this inside for too long now… This is not a statement I have been able to make for quite some time. A very long time in fact. And that extended period of silence has instilled subliminal negative coonotations associated with uttering such a statement publicly - namely that I’m insane.

But, now I can say it openly without fear of ridicule. I can finally come out of the closet and say:

The Atlanta Hawks are in the 2008 NBA Playoffs.

Wow…

That felt kind of weird, yet liberating.

While I hold no illusions that they will go very far in the playoffs this year, maybe this is a sign of the times to come.

WordPress v2.5 Revisited

WordPress v2.5 Revisited

The Final Word

I’ve had several other WordPress bloggers ask me if the upgrade to version 2.5 is still working well - after the initial problem with the missing MySQL index.

For anyone that might be interested, the answer is yes. WordPress v2.5 continues to impress me, and there have been no additional problems on any of my blogs.

Using the usual standard precautions - always be prepared for the worst - I do recommend this version to anyone that wants to keep their WordPress blog software up-to-date. There are many improvements, most evident in the Admin Dashboard, that make it well worth the upgrade.

Bird Talk

December 14th, 2007

So, while reviewing some Google statistics covering a period of the past week, it jumps out at me that 40% of clicked queries leading readers to Blog About Nothing found this site by searching for “DeAngelo Hall”.

I’m not quite sure why that is, since this blog only ranks in the 28th position for DeAngelo Hall queries. I do, however, suspect that it has something to do with Google indexing our thoughts because, despite a lack of in-depth text here about DeAngelo, he is one of my favorite Falcons. Or, maybe it’s Google’s new Mind Control (Beta) application, which through the power of suggestion leads us to write about the topics it chooses.

Since there are obviously visitors here who share an interest in this topic, and not wanting to offend the Google-God, I shall write a few words about our favorite cornerback.

The Atlanta Falcons are in serious need of rebuilding. The departure of Bobby Petrino, and Michael Vick for that matter, will allow that rebuilding to commence. But, where do you start with such a mess?

Let’s just say that if I were given the responsibility of assembling a winning Falcons team, DeAngelo Hall would remain as the cornerback. I don’t even have a problem with his attitude most of the time. He brings some life to the team. Sure, he has crossed the line more often than he should, but I suspect with a decent head coach in place, along with a mutual respect, that he could maintain more self-control and use better judgement.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to see D-Hall completely muzzled either. He needs to be allowed to freely express himself - assuming, of course, it doesn’t cost the team 65 yards in penalties in a single game.

Hall is a very good cornerback. In fact, I’d say he’s an excellent cornerback. He may not be quite as good as he thinks he is, but at least he is confident. That’s something we haven’t seen from many of the other Falcons in 2007.

If there are any other Falcon fans remaining out there, let’s all hope 2008 sets this team in the right direction. Hire a real coach, not a college hack. Acquire a real quarterback, not a running back. And, for the love of God, do some background checks.

There definitely needs to be some cleaning out of lockers during the offseason. But, who should stay, and who should go?

In the meantime, think positive…

WANTED - ALIVE!

Bill Cowher

REWARD!

Subject is known to have coached a certain Pittsburgh sports team to many post-season playoff games over a period of 15 years, capped off by a victory in Super Bowl XL.

This subject is wanted immediately in Atlanta, Georgia, to coach another certain sports team whose douchebag, slimeball, Falcon-fucking, asshole of a coach (whom we will not name here - let’s just call him “Bobby Petrino”) has quit with several games left in the season.

If the above subject is located, he should immediately report to:

Atlanta Falcons
4400 Falcon Parkway
Flowery Branch, GA 30542

A. Blank check (get it?) will be presented to him upon arrival.
