Yeah, Right.
The geniuses in Washington D.C. continue to amaze me with their incompetance.
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives (Democrat controlled by the way) passed a bill allowing the U.S. to sue OPEC for high oil prices.
In part:
The House overwhelmingly approved legislation Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.
The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.
Yeah, this is going to work out real well…
First, such an action is not enforceable. Does anyone really think the Saudis give a rat’s ass what American courts “order” them to do? They have the oil, they win.
Second, take a guess at how quickly such an action will push OPEC to sell yet more oil to China, and less to the U.S.
All this in order to try to tell voters they did “something” about gas prices. It’s a very sad situation that our representatives have drafted this legislation that has no basis in international law and is so belligerent that even Bush has threatened a veto if it passes due to the obvious consequences.
The members of Congress who drafted this and those who voted in favor should have their balls nailed to the wall - because this is a clear showing of incompetence and lack of understanding of the even basics of Law and Governance.
