Selling It

The Easy Way
Craigslist is a very cool location when you’re looking to buy something, but what a pain in the butt it is when you’re the seller.

I’ve bought and sold items on eBay for about ten years and have had very, very, few problems. I’m not a “professional” seller, but I’ve completed well over 1,000 transactions and only a couple that didn’t work out quite as planned. Most of the items I’ve sold were on the smaller side, but there were the occasional heavy and bulky items, which are far more difficult to ship.
I’ve tried to sell a couple of items on Craigslist – A brand new (boxed) toilet and a brand new (boxed) pedestal sink. These were items we purchased for a remodeling project that has since gone in a different direction. Both of these items are larger than I’d care to deal with for an eBay auction.
Originally I considered using iSold It for these items. Just drop them off and let the experts handle the sale and shipping. But, someone suggested that I try Craiglist instead. So, I did…
The toilet actually sold pretty quickly to a nice lady who came to my house the following day and paid with cash. The sink is another story.
I’ve had this thing for sale on Craigslist going on 6 months now, asking less than 50% of the MSRP for it. I’ve had to answer dozens of emails with dumb questions, such as how to set up the plumbing for this sink, and have had five different people schedule times with me to see the sink in person, then never show up.
I’ve given up on Craiglist and I’m going back to eBay. But, for this item – and probably many future items – I’m taking the easy route. I’ll drop them off at my local iSold It store and let them deal with it. My time is too valuable to be wasting it on things like this.
