Boat Sober
With the arrival of Memorial Day weekend, summer activities are finally upon us. One of the most enjoyable summer activities is boating. It’s also one of the most dangerous.

Far too often, alcohol is consumed during boating activities. While moderate alcohol can be perfectly safe and enjoyable for many passengers, it is not the case for the operator of the boat. Boating Operating Under the Influence is directly responsbile for 1/3 of all fatal boating accidents nationwide. Arizona Boating reports indicate that 50 percent of all fatal boating accidents in that state ere alcohol related in 2007.
This isn’t “fun”. This is “stupid”.
Boating Education classes are not required for operating a boat. Apparently, common sense isn’t required either. While I am a strong proponent of education - especially when lives are involved, knowing not to drink alcohol while operating a boat should go without saying.
Should…
But, doesn’t If it did, I wouldn’t be writing this post.
This summer, boat safe, boat smart, boat sober.
