Google Voice

Very Cool, But Now What?
Well, after being on the Google Voice waiting list for well over a year, I finally got my account, number, and I’m all set up.
Worth the wait?
I’ve been playing around with it for the weekend and it is definitely cool. Some very neat features, although the “transcription” service is still a bit on the rough side. Being Google though, I have no doubt that it will be improved.
Best of all, I was able to snag a really awesome phone number. I guess that in itself makes it worth it.
As for the rest of the service, I’ll give it a few months and see what happens.
Google’s Shiny Browser

I’m Convinced
I first tried Google’s new browser, Chrome, a few months ago when I first learned about it. That was a very early Beta release and I wasn’t overly impressed. Honestly though, I didn’t play around with it all that much.
Having been a dedicated Firefox user for several years now, I haven’t really found much need to look elsewhere. I am forced to use IE and Safari through my work, which requires that certain products are tested on all browser releases.
But, being a bit bored a little over a week ago, I went ahead and installed the latest version of Chrome. Since that time, I have logged well over 100 hours in this new web browser.
My conclusion?
I love it!
I’ve found one thing I don’t like, which worked in Firefox, in that I can’t set Chrome to automatically delete my browsing history every time I exit. Other than that, it’s damn-near perfect.
At this point, I’ve found no reason to start up Firefox or IE. Chrome is quicker than either, is clean, and just works.

More fun with Google auto-complete…

Really, is there anything that Google doesn’t know?
And, you know I had to click on that suggested auto-complete question. Because, while this was not a question I had when I woke up this morning, now that I see it I must know the answer.

Really, They Do
It seems that the Google “auto-complete” feature, which pops up a list of the most common results for items that begin with the same text you’re entering into the search box, is one of the more entertaining things to observe on the web.
For example, maybe you’re about to query “my husband is awesome” – you know, to come up with gift suggestions for your super awesome husband, but Google’s suggestions, based upon the most common results, are:

I wonder if these results can be used for some sort of human sociology study…
Google Goddess

I Like Her Again
I’ve had my run-ins with the Google Goddess before – and although I’ve heard the term “Google Gods” before, I’m quite certain it’s singular, and feminine. But then right when I’m really pissed off at her about something, like PageRank for example, she amazes me with her glitter and charm, and I’m back to worshiping her.
For several years now I’ve ignored the services commonly known as Google Apps, or Google Apps For Domains. That was, until today when I saw an interesting reference to it in an article I was reading.
I promptly visited the Google Apps pages and over the past hour or so I’ve been learning everything there is to know about these services. I wont go into the technical details here – since I’m likely the last person in world that hadn’t already tried them out.
But I can say that I’m heading back to the Church of Google, and I’ll be sacrificing virgins for the Google Goddess shortly.
